Another great week of netball with our Saints family coming up! It’s been fantastic to see teams settling in, building connections, and growing in confidence on the court.

This week’s focus continues our learning series — highlighting how netball is played in over 80 countries, reinforcing the importance of clean contact, building passing skills for our NetSetGO players, and understanding the difference between contest and contact through our umpiring insight.

These weekly updates are designed to support player development, improve understanding of the rules, and encourage consistency across all levels of the club.

Thank you to our coaches, managers, umpires, and families for your continued support.

We look forward to another great week of netball ahead.

💙 Together, we are Saints! 💛

Fun Fact of the Week

Did you know netball is played in more than 80 countries around the world? From Australia and New Zealand to England, Jamaica and South Africa, millions of players love the game!

Netball is one of the world’s biggest women’s team sports and continues to grow every year through junior programs like NetSetGO and community clubs like Saints.

Rule of the Week - Contact

Netball is a non-contact sport, which means players should defend fairly without pushing, bumping, holding or tripping.

You can try to win the ball, but you must always play the ball — not the player. Good defence comes from quick feet, smart positioning and teamwork.

Saints Tip: Fair play and respect are a big part of netball. Play hard, play smart and play safely!

NetSetGO Tip - Passing basics

Good passing helps your whole team move the ball quickly down the court.

When passing:

  • Look at your teammate

  • Use two hands for control

  • Step towards your target

The more you practise your passing, the more confident you’ll become during games!

Umpire's Corner - Obstruction

In netball, defenders must stand at least 0.9 metres away from the player with the ball. If you get too close while defending, it’s called obstruction and the other team receives a penalty.

You can still put your hands up and apply pressure — just remember to keep your distance.

Easy Way to Remember It

✔️ One big step away

✔️ Hands up is okay — as long as you keep your distance

❌ Don’t crowd or lean over the player with the ball

Saints Tip

Great defence comes from good positioning, quick footwork and smart pressure — not standing too close!

Go Saints!

We can’t wait to see all our Saints players out on the court again next week. Good luck to every team — play hard, have fun, and represent Saints with pride!

Remember that netball is not just about winning—it’s about teamwork, learning new skills, and having fun with your teammates. Encourage each other, listen to your coaches, and always play with great sportsmanship.
